Signs Your Air Ducts Need Cleaning

November 14, 2025 · 4 min read · Moses HVAC & Chimney

The air in your home circulates through the furnace blower, cooling coils, and air ducts several times a day. As it moves, it deposits organic matter, hair, pet dander, and pollutants inside your vents. Over years, this buildup degrades air quality and forces blower motors to work much harder.

5 Clear Signs Your Ducts Need Cleaning

  1. Rapid dust buildup on furniture. If you dust your tabletops only to find a new grey layer a day later, your vents are likely circulating dry particulates continuously.
  2. Visible debris on register grilles. Remove a vent cover and look inside with a flashlight. Sticky hair webs, thick lint, or black dust rings mean the system is overdue.
  3. Unexplained respiratory allergies. Dry eyes, chronic coughing, scratchy throats, or congestion indoors often improve dramatically once ducts are cleared of mold spores and pollen.
  4. Musty odors when the blower turns on. Mold-like smells indicate moisture has mixed with accumulated debris inside the dark duct joints.
  5. Choked airflow between rooms. When dust compresses and clogs registers, some rooms feel much warmer in summer or colder in winter than the rest of the house.

The Negative-Pressure Solution

Household vacuums lack the suction to safely clean ventilation pipes. We connect the main trunk line directly to our industrial containment truck, create massive negative pressure, scour the walls with rotary whips, and finish with an EPA-registered botanical sanitizing fog.
